INTRODUCTION
The degree would give opportunity to a large number of qualified candidates including practicing Diploma in Education and P1 teachers to further their education without disrupting their productive life.
MODE OF STUDY
The programme is offered through the Open, Distance & e-Learning mode of studies.This involves Limited face-to-face Residential Sessions to provide overview of the course at the commencement of a semester, continuation of a semester, and revision period before examinations and specially designed self-instructional study modules/lecture series availed to the students at registration time through the University’s Multimedia Portal or in Print.

- Log on to the University of Nairobi Website application link www.application.uonbi.ac.ke.
- Type and enter or click on the slot written REGISTER to register your email with the University online application system and proceed.
- Select the School as School of Open &Distance Learning and the mode of study as ‘distance learning’
Application Fee
- Application fee is Ksh. 3,000/- and is non-refundable. Its payable at the last step of the online application vie Mpesa Paybill number or deposit to KCB account or credit card or visa, details which are provided in online application portal as the application is done.
Structure
Course Duration: This is a four (4) calendar year (48 months) degree program comprising six semesters (Parts) of 8 months each.

Admission Requirement:
- PI certificate from a recognized Teacher Training College
- KCSE Mean grade C+ (Plus) or above
- KACE Certificate with 2 Principal passes and above or equivalent qualifications
- KCSE C (Plain) and Diploma from a recognized institution.
- KCSE mean grade C- (Minus) or KCE/EACE division III with a professional certificate and Diploma from an institution recognized by senate
- A Degree from the University of Nairobi or any other University recognized by senate.

FEES STRUCTURE FOR B.ED (ARTS) BY DISTANCE LEARNING
Fees for each semester must be paid at the beginning of the semester. No student will be registered for semester courses or issued with study materials before he/she has paid all the prescribed amount of fees.

Currently, the tuition fees payable per unit is Kshs. 4,616/= and the minimum number of units a student can be allowed to register for in a semester are two (2).

Exam Regulations
All courses shall be examined during the semester in which they are studied. Such examination shall consist of continuous assessment by written assignments, semester tests, demonstrations, projects; and written examination at the end of each semester based on percentage grades. Continuous assessment of written assignment shall account for 30 per cent while the end of semester written examination shall account for 70 per cent.
No candidates will be allowed to take the examination unless they have submitted all the assignments for the units in which they are registered for examination. Each course unit shall be examined by a two hour paper and the pass mark for each paper shall be 40 per cent.
A student who fails in one or more papers shall be required to take a supplementary examination in the failed paper within a period of three months after the date of the ordinary examination. A candidate who fails a paper during the supplementary examination may, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board and approval by the Senate, be allowed to take that paper in the next ordinary examination.
A candidate who fails a paper in four sittings for any unit of study will be discontinued. To qualify for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Education, candidates must sit and pass examinations in a total of 52 units, during their course of study plus an assessment in practical teaching.
A candidate who fails his final Teaching Practice assessment may on the recommendation of the Faculty Board be admitted to a supplementary University assessment in Teaching Practice after the final examinations. A candidate who fails to satisfy assessors in the supplementary Teaching Practice assessment will be discontinued.
A candidate who qualifies for the award of the degree only after re-examination in the 2nd or 3rd level of the course shall not be eligible for the award of an honours degree.
Grades obtained in all courses will be classified and published. The name of a candidate who passes the University examination prescribed for the final year course of study and who in other respects qualified for the award of the degree, will be published and placed in one of the three classes to be described as:
First, Second (Upper Division and Lower Division) and Pass based on their average performances in the examinations prescribed for the full course of study. Honors shall be awarded to a candidate whose name is placed in the first class or second class (Upper Division or Lower Division).
The classification of the Final award will be based on the following grading:
i) First Class Honors 70% and above
ii) Second Class Honors (Upper Division) 60% - 69%
iii) Second Class Honors (Lower Division) 50% - 59%
iv) Pass 40% - 49%
